PCDS Review

PCDS – Philip Clark celebrates twenty years in business, but the family heritage in the footwear business goes back hundreds of years. Following in his father’s footsteps he entered the Boot & Shoe industry.  Rushden, Northamptonshire like Cholet, France; Pirmasens, Germany and Vigevano, Italy, was once the very centre of shoe making in the UK and it was in his blood.

His father’s family and his own brothers and sister, all worked in the footwear industry. Forman, Charge-hands, Clickers, Closers, Pattern Cutters, Office Workers, Engineers, from design through to manufacture, the Clark family were instrumental in keeping British men well shod. Jacques & Clark Ltd was one of many shoe factories in his home town famed for making men’s shoes.

Footwear Design, Technology and Management studies preceded the start of his career. After working for a number of footwear manufacturers in the UK as a Designer/Pattern Engineer he returned to Rushden, where the post of Technical Administrator with G.H.Bull Ltd was taken up. Some years later he was appointed Technical Manager of the UK’s largest and most prestigious safety footwear manufacturer, Totectors. Totectors Ltd was the market leader making over one million pairs per year and it was situated directly opposite Jacques & Clark Ltd where as a school boy during holidays he could be found, gaining experience in every department.

When Philip Clark and Bharti Roberts were joined together in marriage in 2013 two families with a heritage in shoe making were brought together. Her father born into an Indian cast of shoe makers worked for East Africa Boot Company in Kenya. Bharti would regularly accompany Philip on his business trips to Milan, and together they enjoyed many happy times in Italy.
